The Pegge Hopper Gallery is pleased to present illume, a holiday show featuring prints by Kathy Merrill Kelley and jewelry by Kirsten Merrill. As one of Hawaii’s premier interior designers and principal of Merrill & Associates, Kelley’s interest in color and texture is a major influence in her art. Having worked in many media over the years, she has found her niche in printmaking. Her abstraction of familiar forms results in a body of work that is contemplative, organic and naturally luminous. The intuitive lightness of Kelley’s prints pairs with the island ethereal and sparkle of Layerbar, her daughter's signature collection.
Lyrical jewelry made by hand in Hawaii from semi precious stones, freshwater pearls, vintage and antique beads and shells all collected for their inherent beauty. The collection is both modern and timeless, evoking bygone eras of glamour and style, while being completely of the moment, the quintessential accessories for layering with treasured pieces both old and new.
Kirsten Merrill is an artist, a poet and an island girl at heart. She was raised in Hawaii, and has returned to call the island of Oahu home after studying and working as a designer in San Francisco for many years.
The show runs from December 2, 2016 through January 7, 2017, with an opening reception on Friday, Dec 2nd from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The Pegge Hopper Gallery is located in Honolulu’s Historic Chinatown. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
